Hi, I'm Audrey Smith, the driving force behind English on the Run.
In 2018, I embarked on this journey with a clear vision: to revolutionize language learning through flexible and innovative approaches.
My inspiration come from my own personal experiences – I grew up in Australia but as an adult I moved to Italy, and now Palma, Spain. I know the challenges of overcoming language barriers firsthand. Navigating a foreign culture, I've felt the familiar pang of nervousness about speaking another language.
It's this empathy that guides my commitment to guide you towards unlocking your true potential in English.

Many people feel overwhelmed when they begin learning a new language. You might struggle with where to start or how to stay motivated. We help you understand the foundational aspects of learning English, offering clear guidance for your journey.
Learning English means more than memorizing vocabulary. It is about understanding and using the language to connect with others. This involves developing several core skills and mastering fundamental aspects. To truly learn English, you must practicethese areas regularly.
Active Listening:Understanding spoken English is crucial for effective communication. For example, listening to podcasts helps you learn natural rhythm and common phrases.
Confident Speaking:Expressing your thoughts clearly allows you to participate in conversations. You can improve by practicing daily with a partner or by talking to yourself.
Effective Reading:Reading builds vocabulary and helps you understand different sentence structures. Regularly reading news articles or short stories increases your comprehension.
Clear Writing:Putting ideas into written English is vital for professional and academic settings. Practicing writing emails or short essays helps you organize your thoughts.
Grammar and Vocabulary:These are the building blocks that support all other skills. Strong grammar allows correct sentences, and a wide vocabulary expresses precise meanings.
Mastering these fundamental aspects creates a strong foundation for your English learning journey. Focusing on all these areas equally will help you achieve fluency and confidence.
English has become a global language, connecting people across different countries and cultures. Learning English opens many doors for your personal and professional growth. It prepares you for a world that relies heavily on international communication. Therefore, mastering English is an important step foryour future success.
Global Communication:English helps you talk to people from all over the world. For example, you can easily speak with colleagues from different countries during an international conference call.
Career Opportunities:Many companies now require English skills for good jobs. If you want to work for a multinational firm, a strong command of English will significantly improve your chances during an interview.
Access to Knowledge:A vast amount of information, from scientific papers to online courses, is available in English. This allows you to read important research or learn new skills without language barriers.
Travel and Culture:English makes travel much easier and more rewarding. You can navigate airports, order food, and talk to locals with confidence when visiting a new country.
Personal Development:Learning a new language improves your cognitive skills and boosts your confidence. Understanding English media, like movies or books, also connects you to diverse cultural content.
Investing in English language skills is an investment in yourself. It gives you the tools to succeed in many areas of life.
Assessing your progress is a crucial part of learning English effectively. It helps you understand what you have mastered and what still needs attention. Regularly checking your skills keeps you motivated and ensures your study methods are working. This process allows you to make smart adjustments toyour learning plan.
Regular Self-Assessment:Take time to test yourself often. For example, try to speak about a new topic for five minutes without stopping. This exercise helps you see how much your fluency and vocabulary have grown.
Progress Journals:Keep a record of your learning journey. Write down new words, grammar rules, and phrases you learn each week. Reviewing this journal helps you recognize how much new material you have covered over time.
Practice with Native Speakers:Engage in conversations with people who speak English as their first language. They can give you direct feedback on your pronunciation and grammar. You will notice your speaking skills improve as you hold more complex conversations.
Reviewing Past Work:Look at old writing assignments or listen to recordings of yourself speaking from earlier lessons. Compare them to your current work. You will likely find fewer mistakes and better sentence structure now.
Taking Placement Tests Again:Many online platforms offer free placement tests. Taking the same test after a few months can show a clear increase in your score. This provides an objective measure of your progress.
Assessing your progress does not need to be complicated. These simple methods help you celebrate small wins and keep moving forward in your English learning journey.
Learning English effectively requires a structured and consistent approach. By following specific actionable steps, you can build a strong foundation and see real progress. These methods focus on practical application and daily engagement to help you master the language.
Consistent Daily Practice:Regular practice, even for short periods, reinforces learning. This includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing in small bursts. For example, try listening to an English podcast for 15 minutes during your morning commute.
Immersive Exposure:Surround yourself with English content as much as possible. This helps your brain adapt to the language’s natural rhythm and common phrases. You could switch your phone’s language to English or watch movies with English subtitles instead of your native language.
Active Speaking Practice:Do not be afraid to speak, even if you make mistakes. Speaking is crucial for building fluency and confidence in real-world situations. Find a language partner or join an online conversation group to practice expressing your thoughts aloud.
Focused Vocabulary Building:Learn new words in context rather than just memorizing lists. This makes new vocabulary more memorable and useful in conversation. When you read an English article, note down unfamiliar words and try to use them in a sentence related to the topic.
Set Clear, Achievable Goals:Define what you want to achieve with your English learning. Small, specific goals keep you motivated and show your progress clearly. For instance, aim to learn ten new words each week or hold a five-minute conversation entirely in English by next month.
By consistently applying these actionable steps, you will make significant progress in your English learning journey. Effective English learning comes from dedication and smart, regular practice.
